Each sea bean is a naturally formed drift seed, hand-collected by us along the beaches of Florida. These seeds arrive after long journeys carried by ocean currents, eventually washing ashore as part of nature’s continuous cycle of movement and return.

Each bean is unique in shape, size, and surface texture, shaped by its time traveling through rivers and open ocean. No two are ever alike.

Sea beans originate from tropical regions such as Central and South America, where they grow on large rainforest vines. Once mature, their seed pods release into river systems, travel into the ocean, and are carried across vast distances by currents and usually spend many years at sea before naturally arriving on Gulf and Atlantic coastlines.

Sea beans are naturally viable seeds, though germination is not guaranteed due to the length of time they may spend in saltwater and environmental exposure.

They are kept in their natural, raw state as found, but you may attempt to grow them if desired:

To try germination:

• Lightly file, nick, or gently scratch a small area of the seed coat to help water penetrate

• Soak the seed in warm water for 24–48 hours

• Plant in warm, well-draining soil (preferably sandy or tropical-style mix)

• Keep consistently moist but not waterlogged

• Place in a warm, bright environment (indirect sunlight is ideal)

• Germination time can vary greatly, and success is not guaranteed
